 Very impressive! Jan 19, 2010
Just got to try out the new Black Diamond 1W spot-headlight and so far I am totally satisfied, especially for my purposes, which is mostly jogging, biking or skiing after hours... Does not look waterproof and probably is not, but I don't shower with it... The light output, just like everybody else is lamenting, is truly amazing for a little AAA-headlamp, it's as if you had a big Maglite strapped to your forehead.
Definitely worth the price!

This replaced a lightweight cyclops headlamp that I decided was worthless when i tried to hike at night with it. The black diamond spot allowed me to see far in the distance and easily find my way around the woods on moonless nights. The only downside is that i thought it might be too bright for looking into my cooking pot and eating. It wasn't, but i flt a little odd with a piercing spot light on my dehydrated lasagna. Amazon should ad the correct item weight to the description (Weight Without Batteries : 50 g, 1.8 oz.

I received this product as a gift 2 years ago. I love it! It works great - everything I need. Unfortunately, I pulled it out of my bag on a camping trip this summer and the plastic bracket holding the lamp to the band was broken. I was devastated, the warranty had run out. I recently decided to contact customer service. Despite the busy holiday season, they got back to me right away and are sending me a new bracket free of charge. Thank you Black Diamond! In a world where customer service seems to disappearing, you contradict the norm and provide fantastic service!

 Extraordinarily poor compared with the competition Jun 26, 2009

I use an LED headlamp daily while pedal cycling, walking and reading in bed (our interior lighting is very basic). In rural India with little or no lighting -- but plenty of snakes and scorpions -- a good headlamp is one of life's few essentials.
I hope Black Diamond have improved the Spot since the model I bought two years ago. At that time I had already used a Princetontec EOS for 8 months and bought a Black Diamond Spot and a Petzl Tikka XP by mail order for comparison.
The Spot was extraordinarily poor compared with the other two. While the EOS and the XP both had some features better than the other, the Spot had no fatures that were better than the EOS or XP! It was inferior in every respect, despite the similar price and a competitive market place. I used it for a while in case I was mistaken but the initial assesment prooved accurate and I gave the Spot to a friend who only wanted it for reading in bed.

My light that I have had for 2 yrs And tell today I was very happy with it [ Alias 6volt 15 watt lamp it is rechargeable $ 100 bucks it was on close out] I was going to a winter REI class on riding your bike. When I started my trip it was about 70 outside. Six miles in to my trip I was in a wall of Fog and I had 28 miles to go so I had to use my light sooner than planed. When I got to REI I had no light :( so I asked them if I could plug it in so when I left I would have some light for my trip home. they where very nice and did so. When I was in class they showed a head lamp and gave the pros on it so when I got out of class I received help on this. I got the SPOT and on the way home my old light went out and to my amazement this aaa battery powered light worked so great I was so happy that I could see better than I ever had!:) This has deferent modes and a one watt & the 3 leds worked much better than one in this fog it was so bad out there that I could not see the other side of the road! using this light I could look to see my speed, time and what gear I was in! I was on country roads. THIS SPOT WORKED SO WELL I CAN TELL YOU I GIVE THIS FIVE Wheels out of FIVE :) IF YOU WANT AN GREAT LIGHT FOR A GOOD PRICE (I PAID $39.95 + tax at REI ) you can't beat this one
