OK but could be better Sep 14, 2007

Great performance although....
There is no way to turn off the blinking locator LED. This is a handy feature when you need to find it in the dark. However, you can't store them with the batteries in or they go dead in a month or so. If you use it all the time, no big deal. If you store it in your car and need to use it occasionally, this really stinks.
Also you can tell that they are making these in China. The fit and finish, as well as the feel of the plastic parts is not very good.

I first use it on february 16, 17 and 18 on an adventure race. The batteries en up OK, the diferent light levels are great for all conditions, the super bright bulb is amazing wen you are searching for clues in the night.
Great for all conditions, fits perfect on the climbing helmet and the bike helmet.
Good product but better comparable products available. Oct 23, 2007

To put my review in perspective, I own a PrincetonTec Eos, Petzl Myo XP, and now considering selling off the BD Vectra IQ.
Uses, camping, hiking, climbing, cycling and reading at night.
Pros of Vectra IQ. The strobe light seems to be a nice feature. The seven option of lighting is nice, not that I have had to use all of them. 'Find me' light has it's uses in the dark while camping. Water resistency is good.
Cons. Finish of this headlamp is not high class. Comparing to PrincetonTec & Petzl finish, BD seems to be lacking in design and materials' dept. Light output compared to the two of my other headlamps seems a bit diffused, and no option to focus. Focus is critical when u are climbing in the dark.
Another con. at 254 grams, this is a heavy headlamp. Battery case is bulky, but guess nature of all headlamps that use four AA batteries.
I haven't experienced this yet, but apparently, if you leave the headlamp in your pack for over a month, the batteries lose their power. Not a good thing.
Overall, I think this is a good product in itself, but considering options available in the market, Vectra IQ is lot of money for value and features it offers.
