Excellent lite for the outdoorsman Jun 29, 2011

Great features. You must press and hold the on-off button to make it come on. Stops inadvertent activation and draining batteries. Comes on red first - saves night vision. The different power levels are great. I use it on the job when fighting wild land fires at night, high beam is bright. I can use it on medical aid calls in a house when the light are too dim to see well. It runs on the ubiquitous AA battery, 4 of them, which are readily available.

I didn't buy my Brunton RL6 LED Headlamp from Amazon, but decided I'd buy my second one from them at some later date. This is the 3rd or 4th headlamp I've owned, and, hands down, it is the best of the lot. The design is well thought out. The light provided by this headlamp is bright on high, and has two lower levels of brightness along with a red LED for protecting night vision. The shape of the lamp housing is well thought out so that it sits naturally across your forehead. The strap is wide, comfortable, and has lines of very soft plastic that act in a way to keep the band from slipping up or down on your head. The RL6 headlamp has not one, but two battery compartments to balance the weight around your head, instead of weighing down one side of the band causing it to sag. The lamp housing itself is divided into two pieces allowing that part with the LED's to swivel up and down for better aim of the beam coming from the light. Everything about this head lamp says that it is a quality product that should last a long time. I wouldn't even consider buying a second one if I didn't believe it was a high quality, cost effective choice for a headlamp. This product gets a very easy 5-star rating, but that only because Amazon doesn't have a 6-star rating. Get one, and you'll see what I mean.
