Useful hydration system, but could be better Aug 14, 2007
By D. Kim

I've owned quite few hydration systems over the years. Recently, I purchased this Camelbak M.U.L.E. hydration pack from Amazon and started using it. Compared to my old hydration systems (original Camelbak and Blackburn), this one is light years ahead. The original Camelbak systems had a fairly small opening which made it very difficult to put larger ice cubes into the reservoir not to mention cleaning the inside. Additionally, the closure caps for the reservoir were held in place with friction.
The current systems have openings large enough for me to put my fist through which makes filling the reservoir with ice cubes and cleaning the systems very easy. Additionally, the reservoir cap now screws on securely, so it's unlikely to pop open even if you land on your back after flipping over the handlebars.
The M.U.L.E. is well constructed of heavy duty fabric. The multiple compartments are definitely useful for carrying gear in addition to your car keys. There's even a pocked at the top for your music player with a hole to thread your headphones through.
My biggest complaint is that the reservoir is located in the back panel through a side zip pocket. This makes it a hassle to fill the reservoir because you have to almost remove it or risk pouring water accidentally into the compartment. On the other Camelbak systems (Lobo, Hydrobak, etc), the reservoir fill cap is located on the front of the pack and easily accessible without removing the reservoir.
Overall, this product is well constructed and useful. My complaint is really just a minor one because with 3 liters of fluid, it's unlikely you'll need to access the reservoir too often on any single day hike or bike expedition.

Name Brand Is Where Its At - Camelbak! Sep 09, 2007
By J. Labbe OK, you could get a $20 Hydration Pack from Wal-Mart but why? I picked up my Camelbak M.U.L.E for $60 ($25 cheaper than MSRP). Chalk one up for Amazon!
The M.U.L.E is a great all around pack the holds 3 liters of water. You may think that 3 liters of water is too much, it will add extra weight, etc. Good news is you don't have to fill it up all the way all the time! I have used the pack for mountain biking, 4 wheeling and hiking so far and see endless possibilities. The pack is very customizable between the straps, clips and pockets. Pockets are very generous in size but do not add much extra size and weight to the pack. It looks big in the picture but is not that bad. The pictures show the pack totally stuffed with supplies but if you are just using it for water, spare bike tube, a multitool and a hat, it sits very flat on the back. The water reservoir is very tough and is warrantied for life.
Please don't go generic! Trust Camelbak.

Everything I need and more in portable hydration. Mar 24, 2007
By Michael Slauson This is yet another great product by CamelBak. The 100oz bladder gives me plenty of water to stay outdoors and active for most of the day, and there is enough room in the pouches to toss in a small book, some energy bars, sunscreen, cell phone, et cetera, as well as a dedicated pouch for an MP3 player with a padded and water resistant outlet for headphones. Basically, this pack is large enough to fit plenty in for a day trip outdoors, but small enough to not be cumbersome or annoying to lug around.
This pack is also extremely comfortable to wear. The shoulder straps are padded, adjustable, and ergonomically designed, narrowing at the base of the neck then curving out wider around the chest and ending at the base of the pack where it connects to a wide mesh support that wraps around your hips. The back is also padded and meshed, with grooves to allow airflow so that your back does not sweat as much while wearing it. There are also several straps on the pack (some of which are removable, in case they get on your nerves) that make it possible to stream-line the storage areas if you are not carrying much with you.
Overall, this is a great product, and a valuable asset for anyone who enjoys being actve outdoors.

Owned for over 10 years Aug 12, 2009
By Sheli Ellsworth I have had my Camelbak M.U.L.E. since about 1999. I used it primarily to throw in the airplane/helicopter with me on a daily basis with water, some cliff bars, and flight gear. During that time it has also been used for an untold number of dayhikes. It is still going strong! I have killed several other backpacks during that time. My MULE is on it third bladder, but the pack has served me very, very well.[...]~Jeff

gets the job done with ease. Jul 05, 2009

does everything I need a hydaration pack to do and then some. For a non-specific, general purpose hydration pack with a good amount of extra room for storage, this one is perfect. this is my third hydration pack and only the first only I'm completely satisified with. The only thing that would make it better would be a small pocket on one of the shoulder straps that I could use for a cell phone.
