BUY THIS PACK!! May 02, 2007

If I could ever give anyone one piece of advice for hiking it would be to get this pack. It's perfect for day trips and holds just enough water for a 7 or 8 mile trip. It has three compartments 1. for the water 2. for clothes and supplies 3. for misc items. I am seriously impressed with this item and it has served me well on my first thirty miles of hiking with it. The water pack is very durable and can take a beating all while staying sealed perfectly with no leaks. The one thing that I didn't like was when I received it I noticed that the black/green was interesting but the green is neon green and it's only the stitching. In fact it looks awful but with some patience and a permanent marker I fixed it and you can't even tell it was ever neon green. So seriously think about buying this pack I promise you will not be let down.

Camelbak Outlaw fits the bill! Dec 28, 2007

Great product and has many features not found on similar products. Would highly recommend this for both survival and day light packing.
Road bike solo Nov 24, 2009
By Me I bought this pack for 60-100 mile day jaunts on a road bike. When every pound on your bike under 20lbs seems to cost you $200 and every pound under 17lbs costs you $500, I was looking for something compact and light. For me, 50 miles out, I'm hungry, energy bars are not it, two bottles of water on a bike are not enough, no group, no water stations. The longer the ride, the more temperatures vary, so some place for clothing layers would be next on my list. You read a lot about this pack on the internet. It gets a lot of love. Quality, durability, and design, all true.
I was a little concerned about the waist strap. Someone said it wouldn't fit more than a 28" waist. They must have changed that. I have about a 28" waist and have another 12" to spare on the waist strap.
For the average person, day trip, there is plenty of space, over night, different bag and take your car. It is more versatile than Camelbak says. They have very little for instructions or illustrations, and if you call customer service, well I got very little from them. There are three sets of external tie down straps, top, middle and bottom. They have a velcro tie that takes up the slack on each. The bottom set you can loosen and cinch in a rolled up windbreaker, now we're talking. The middle set just above and to the side of the equipment pouch, you can loosen and cinch in to each side your shoes to swap out with your cleated road shoes, yes my son, you can walk when you get there. The top set, the buckles detach, you run them through the vents on your helmet, and cinch it to the top of pack, shell outward and front pointing down.
There is plenty of room for equipment, arrangements are endless. This a great pack. Get one while it is cheap, before serious roadies catch on to it and drive the price up.
