2Burner problems  Mar 30, 2006
By B. Goldstein "Brian Goldstein"
I've used the older model of this stove previously and had been very impressed. This lighter weight, updated version should have been even better. However its design is highly problematic and I ended up returning it. Thanks to Amazon's great return policy I didn't even have to pay to ship it back (since the stove was dysfunctional from the start). The two problems I encountered was a pressure regulator safety device that was so sensitive it was very tricky to even get the stove to light. Camp Chef ended up sending me a new regulator, which worked better, though was still rather sensitive.

The second problem was worse, and I suspect due to a design issue. After the burner was lit and on high for a minute or two, and then lowered to a low setting the flame would initially go low, as expected, but then all of sudden the flame would practically disappear, and the burner would begin to roar very loudly, like a minature jet engine. The burner plate would then turn bright orange, brighter than if the burner was even set to high. At the same time I would occasionally see a flame jump into the gas feed tube. Kinda scary. Note - Camp Chef support staff had no explanation for what was causing this problem.

I know these are supposed to be great stoves, so I am going to try their cast iron burner model, since I believe its an older, and more established design.

Oh yeah, one more thing, this stove puts out 20k btu, not 25k as described.

2Disappointed with the usability & quality  Sep 17, 2010
By Saibal
I was expecting a much better stove considering its price. The hose has propane leak near the connector connecting to the stove. Why couldn't they use a more reliable connector? The locking clip on one side wouldn't hold the lid. Had to bend it make it tight.

Cons:
1. The knobs are tiny in a very tiny space where even my small hinds find difficult to operate.
2. Every time I have to check whether clockwise is increasing the flame or is it other way around. Very difficult to see.
3. The hose connection is in the front whereas you would generally keep the propane tank behind. Hence you have to take hose from behind and below and then attach it in the front.

Weird: The handle is at the back. Very non-intuitive.

Pros: Shiny cover. Strong flame.

5A real camping stove! in a box lid design  Dec 18, 2009
By Fishgriller "Kurt Ploetz"
I could not be happier with this stove!

We have used everything from Coleman green stoves to the new generation of Stansport, Brunton and Texsport low price stoves. Well they are all disposable compared to the ATS 50T.

From Top to bottom:

LID: a solid lid with a lip that will actually block some wind.
SIDE WIND SCREENS: heavy duty not just a tin foil lightweight side flap.
THE BURNERS: 20,000 BTU a quality blue flame with a round ball of heat, no sputtering or flare ups.
heats up in a hurry.
THE BASE: Solid square base with protection for the front. this will sit perfect on a table or the ground.
The QUALITY: Weighs 20lbs and it is a solid cooking piece that you can actually use! the bottom is wide enough to put a pot on top and small enough you can throw it in the back of the SUV.

SUMMARY: if you want to cook macaroni and cheese and freeze dried food buy the cheapest stove you can find and throw it in the can on the way out of the camp site. OR you can buy this stove and have a lightweight cooking

stove that is powerful and heavy enough to use for many seasons.

2Bummer, nothin but probems...  Feb 18, 2011
By khalilsc
The thing works great when it works. Unit surges all the time and regulator freezes more than half the time. Didn't think I would mind the hose being in the front, but it sucks. Its also heavy and bulky- thought I wouldn't mind that either, it's simply, problematic.
