Did not Meet Expectations Mar 08, 2007
By Patrick Cummings

I had 2 lengthy outdoor opportunities to test these boots. They fell short of my expectations. They're a bit heavier than I thought they would be. Even after 6 hours of being worn, they seem a little stiff. My biggest disappointment though was the boots inability to keep my feet warm. The first time I wore them the temperature was around 4 degrees. Within an hour I could start feeling discomfort from the cold and by an hour and a half I had to come inside to warm up. I think these boots were rated to -45 degrees. I don't know where they came up with this rating, but I greatly disagree with it.

Like everyting else these days- garbage Dec 10, 2007
By lakeqi The previous reviewer said that his feet got cold after and hour or so.Thats being generous; these boots can't keep your feet warm for five minutes even if the temperatures well above 20, especially if you aren't walking. If you plan on standing at a bus stop or doing something else where you are going to be more or less stationary forget about it. They aren't waterproof either. i had these same problems to a greater degree with Colombia's Gortex winter hiker, can;t remember the model name. I exchanged them for these. Like every other company these days, Columbia is selling crap and keeping their fingers crossed that you won't return them, and that you will blame yourself for being cold and not the boots.

Nice boots Dec 23, 2008
By MN I've had these boots for awhile now, and they seem to be very good boots with a few minor issues. First the good stuff: the boots seem well made, and I believe they'll last for quite a few years of normal use. They're comfortable, and provide great support for your feet and ankles. The soles provide great traction in the snow and slush. They're easy to get on and off, which I really like in a winter boot. I haven't had any problems with water leakage, but I haven't stood in standing water for extended periods of time either. They've been nice and warm for me in temperatures down to -10 degrees. One thing people should know about comfort ratings on boots is that they are ALWAYS way higher than they should be. A lot of it depends on the person wearing the boots, and activity level. I've seen -100 F boots made by a reputable manufacturer fail miserably in -10 F weather because the person wearing them had poor circulation in his feet, and his activity level was low. Personally, I would add at least 30 degrees to the rating of any boot manufactured by any company if you're looking for a somewhat accurate rating for normal activity.
The only bad things I have found is that the boots are very stiff, and don't seem to be loosening up much with use. I don't actually mind much since they're still very comfortable, but a little more flexibility would make these very, very comfortable. The only other negative is plastic speed lacers on the top of the boot. I haven't broken one yet, but it's a stupid idea for any footwear, especially winter footwear.
Tough shoes for snow! Dec 21, 2008

I got one of these in November 2006 from Amazon and still using it in perfectly good condition. These shoes are really tough, stylish, equipped for heavy snowfall and the grip is quite good. Staying in Buffalo, New York, where it snows a lot, these shoes helped me a lot to survive through the harsh snow. Although, these shoes are a little heavy,it does its job well.
