Great Basic Bag May 12, 2010 I've been traveling around the middle east (just left Iraq in one piece, yeay!# with this bag for almost a month now and its holding together well, even after all the abuse I've doled out to it. Smashing it under seats, doorwells on mini buses, packed into an over crowded shared taxi trunk, sleeping on it during ferry rides, etc. When zipped apart it was easily carry-on size #make the main bag into a duffle so you don't have to contend with extra straps when sticking it in the overhead# and when zipped together, I've zoomed in and around bazaars and up and down...and up and down--and did I mention the up part, of stairs while looking for cheap hotels #lobbies tend to be on the second floor with steep stair cases#. One note, if your are wearing it zipped together just remember its gonna stick out a bit, you might wack someone in a crowded area if your not careful, I haven't had any problems yet, though.
I've been able to fit everything I need and its comfy enough to wear as long as you use the straps to cinch down the load. Zipped together the mesh side pocket fits a 1.5 liter water bottle great and the day pack fits all my daily needs #sunblocks, wet wipes, camera, ipod and the such# plus books, journal and again a 1.5 lt bottle of water no problem. As for size, granted I'm a light traveler, but on this trip I'm experiencing high temps from right around freezing #I love mountains# to well over 100 #I'll be Luxor in June# and I'm traveling to remote non westernized areas. I do want to stress I'm a college gal and am use to heavy backpacks so my tolerance might be higher then some.
One thing I would love is some internal pockets or some kind of built in organizer, but its not a deal breaker for me. Oh the padded handles on the main bag, rock! So comfy when your hauling it out for the checkpoints or boarder crossing or whatever. For the price you can't beat it, but again, if zipped together you might want to make sure you've been doing your core muscle workouts before your trip...or maybe take less books then I did (I love my books!) or you could just wear the day pack as its suppose to be, and thats clipped to shoulder straps so that is resting against your chest. Sorry if this posting looks wierd, but I'm overseas. Happy travelings!
Great little backpack. May 09, 2010 After much online research I bought this pack for a 2 week trip to europe. I travel quite a lot but within north america and the Caribbean and usually have very easy access to personal transport. As such i usually carry a small suitcase. since this would not be the case for europe i decided that a backpack was the way to go. With the availability of backpacks where i live in Trinidad being limited I had to purchase online without a try on. but it was the best i could get way within my one hundred dollar limit.
when I received it, it looked a bit small and I was worried. since i had just finished doing two loads of laundry I decided to just stuff it full and see how it worked out. to my surprise I was able to fit all the stuff from one large laundry basket and then about half of the other one into this pack. and with this load in it I tried it on in all the different configurations. It is a very comfortable pack, and with all the different options for use its more than good value for money. I subsequently used it for a weekend trip and decided to pack it as I would if I were going out for a week, just as packing practice and I was easily able to fit what i need for a week, with space for a lot more. and this included computer and electronic toys too :-)
When I arrived I decided to carry it on a little trek that i did to check out the area, and it was really comfortable. as some other reviewers said its more comfortable to carry with the smaller pack in front, however i did not find carrying the small pack on the back was a major discomfort and mine was packed a bit heavy. However note I am a 6'2" 190 pound guy, so this may make some difference. The covering for the straps would prove to be a real asset if the bag has to be checked in on an airplane and the side handle makes for comfortable carrying where I would normally use my small suitcase. and on most airlines i would be able to travel all carry on, saving me time and lost luggage stress. Also while I am moving through the airport I only have a single unit instead of the suitcase and laptop bag.
my only negative comment is that the zippers seem to be the wrong choice, but they will do the job ok for me. and not the part about being able to lock them, because if someone had a sharp object that would cut the little strings and want to open your pack they could just as easy cut across the zipper and open the bag, the difference is that in the end I have to replace a little string and your pack is damaged. a back pack is low security and as such that claim has no value except that it could be turned around to be positive on this pack.
It also has so many features that it would almost be unfair to ask for more at the same price, however in this laptop computer age, it would have been nice to at least have straps like the ones in the main pack, built into the day pack, to hold a laptop in place or even better yet a sleeve to hold the computer.
Generally great value for money, and i will try to report back after I use it to travel overseas. We would see if i miss my wheels in the larger airports.

Solid Product May 02, 2010 I most wanted something durable. I've used this for about eight weeks and so far the feeling I get is that this product is quality and rugged. I also like the way it can be used as a suitcase by neatly hiding the back shoulder straps and using the shoulder strap accessory. Finally you get a "two-fer" -- the backpack can become two back packs if you want a day-tripper. Not inexpensive, but better than purchasing something for half the price and having the threads break.
Travel to Europe Dec 29, 2009 I bought this as a bag for carry-on and a few-day trip from my host's house in Germany. I ended up using the small detachable bag as a purse and bag for walking around Paris. It is also a small enough pack to not have to be checked at the Louvre and other museums. The larger part was great as a carry -on when unzipped from the smaller pack but together the two were too large on buses, subways and planes. It did help that I had packed spare clothes in it since my checked baggage for my 2-week trip was lost. As a combo for 5 days in Paris it did the job and the trip to and from the train station was easier because of its ability to zip together.
It held up well and I can see using it again as baggage and/or a small backpack.
Nice Backpack Dec 01, 2009 The only thing i dont like are the plastic buckles (they are kind of weak)
