Beware Sep 21, 2009

I have been Nordic walking (really hiking up and down mountains) for nearly 4 years.
I used to love these poles. They are carbon and don't vibrate like aluminum poles. And they are light.
However I continually have issues with the locking mechanism not locking. I have sent the poles back once. Leki has a lifetime guarantee. They sent out repaired poles.
However... having the locking mechanism fail (will not lock at all) is terrible. Once I had to use the poles at their shortest size since I couldn't lock them. Another time I had to abandon the trip.
I have Leki traveler poles I use when traveling by air and have had no problems with them.
I have given up on these an have just ordered some SWIX fixed length carbon poles.

LEKI Speed Pacer Vario Nordic Walking Poles Jan 28, 2007
By Marek Zalewski Speed Pacer Varios are unique, allowing a +/-5cm adjustability, not so much to allow use by different-sized people, but rather to enable small adjustments, depending on conditions and on the type of workout desired.
Longer poles generally provide a better upper body workout, shoter ones allow a faster cadence.
The LEKI Speed Pacer Varios are made from 100% carbon, have a very useful quick release "trigger" strap. A good choice for the serious Nordic walker.
