About LEKI

LEKI, the world’s leading manufacturer of ski, hiking and trekking poles, had its start in Kircheim, Germany as a hobby of its founder, Karl Lenhart, an airframe mechanic and avid skier. Lenhart believed aluminum would make a superior ski pole compared to the heavy steel models available in the late 1940’s. After successfully creating lightweight poles for his friends, in 1954, the hobby became a full time business. LEKI originated the use of nylon webbing for straps and created plastic molded grips and baskets in place of metal and leather. Additionally, Lenhart developed an aluminum tempering process that produces pole shaft with incomparable strength, durability, and reliability.

In 1984, Klaus Lenhart, Karl’s son, assumed leadership and shortly there after developed the first dual-component grip. He is also responsible for improving adjustable pole-locking technology and grip innovations such as the Trigger Click-In system and COR-TEC, a material made of real cork and latex. As the ski market continued to flourish, LEKI began manufacturing hiking poles primarily for European mountain guides. The concept of using two poles as means of relieving stress on knee joints and the lower back appealed to climbers who also saw benefits in performance and safety. LEKI poles eventually caught on with the general hiking and trekking population that recognized and appreciated the preventive health benefits as well as the climbing support and stabilizing effects. In 1990, LEKI USA was incorporated. The North American market has embraced the company’s line of alpine, Nordic, back country, mountaineering, Nordic walking, and trekking poles. Like their European counterparts who have been loyal to LEKI for nearly five decades, North American outdoor enthusiasts know and appreciate LEKI quality and value.

Features:
  • Super Lock System offers a secure adjustment hold with the least amount of torque (hand strength required) to offer secure, reliable support

  • Rubber Fitness Lite tips are specially designed to provide traction on pavement and smooth surfaces; a smaller, compact tip size reduces weight at the end of the pole while enhancing swing weight

  • Carbide Flextips are concave, cylindrical tips that provide a secure hold when Nordic walking off-road on all terrain and surfaces; carbide is extremely durable while the entire tip is replaceable.

  • The unique +/-5-cm adjustment range of the Speed Pacer Vario requires that you order poles to your size

5Light Weight, Colorful Nordic walking poles  Mar 09, 2011
By H. Chen "occasional shopper"
I had bought another pair of Nordic walking poles for my dad (from REI) and knew the length I want for my own. When I saw the Leki Speed Vario price lowered for the 110cm, I bought it right away. I love it. The handle is thin and comfortable to grip, especially with the Leki locking system so you can snap on and off while still wearing a glove. The lever was a little difficult to fully unlock sometimes, but that's not a problem.

The most important benefit of using these poles is that I don't have lower back pain anymore after walking. Great upper body workout while walking and good balance. Keep my posture upright. Did I mention it helps with my lower back?? Highly recommend.

5top of the line nordic walking poles-- does not disappoint  Sep 18, 2010

I was turned on to nordic walking by a European friend three years ago & own a set of Leki speed varios. Have enjoyed them in the city & on trails for fun & weight loss --25 pounds. Am a volunteer nordic walking evangelist & have enjoyed turning people on to the sport. Have a collection of poles for groups & urge them to try different kinds & models including my own 110 varios. These are the poles they like the best because they are so light & you can swing your arms easily & know you have gotten a great fullbody low impact workout. When they were on sale on Amazon in August 2010 I bought two pair of 110 varios. Of course I'm still using my own (estimate 1,800 miles )but sold the two discounted new sets to fellow enthusiasts who used to borrow mine. I'd say it's a win win.

2Unreliable Locking Makes These Poles Dangerous  Sep 21, 2009
By goliath100 "goliath100"
I have been Nordic walking (really hiking up and down mountains) for nearly 4 years. I have had these poles for about 2 years.

I used to love these poles. They are carbon and don't vibrate like aluminum poles. And they are light.

However I continually have issues with the locking mechanism not locking. I have sent the poles back once. Leki has a lifetime guarantee. They sent out repaired poles.

However... having the locking mechanism fail (will not lock at all) is terrible. Once I had to use the poles at their shortest size since I couldn't lock them. Another time I had to abandon the trip.

I have Leki traveler poles I use when traveling by air and have had no problems with them.

I have given up on these an have just ordered some SWIX fixed length carbon poles.
