5Good 1st stove  Jun 05, 2010
I bought this stove recently and took it on a 3 day trip to Kettle Moraine North in Wisconsin. I used it to prepare breakfast and dinner meals which involved boiling water for oatmeal, coffee, and various noodle dinners. I also sauteed some spam to add to the noodles.

The stove is easy to set up and light. Just screw the stove into your canister and light with a match. The flame is powerful and heated water quickly - in probably 2-3 minutes I had a rolling boil. It's nice that you can control the flame easily too - I used this feature to turn the flame down after heating water for tea and coffee. I like to keep the water hot in case I want more, as opposed to only heating as much as I want and then heating cold water all over again. I used the MSR Blacklite pots with this stove.

Sauteing the SPAM was easy too, I obviously lowered the flame for this.

There are two significant downsides to this stove:

1. It is easy to tip over the meal you're cooking. I did it once and so did a friend of mine. We didn't lose the food in either case, but you have to be extremely careful. I bought a Brunton can stand that will hopefully counteract the instability issue, but I haven't tried it yet.

2. The canisters of fuel are expensive. An 8oz. canister of MSR fuel is around 5 or 6 bucks. I almost used up one of these during my trip. By comparison, one gallon of the white gas used to fuel the liquid fuel stoves like the MSR Whisperlite costs about $8.50 at Farm and Fleet. That fuel will last an extremely long time. So, it's just something you need to consider when buying the stove. The liquid stoves, on the other hand, aren't quite as easy to deal with as the canister stoves. My friend has one and it's a bit tricky to light it without over priming it and starting a small white gas fire.

I knew that fuel would be more expensive for this stove before I bought it, but it's still a downside. I recently bought a canister of Brunton isobutane and it works just fine with this stove. I bought a 16oz which was about 10 bucks.

The stove is surprisingly small. It fits right inside of my MSR Blacklite pot set.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. I would definitely buy it again.

4Little Disappointed  Apr 25, 2010
Only because the product does not come with a canister of fuel. And the fuel is not carried by Amazon. Or REI. Or many other online retailers. It appears to be a scarce commodity. I did scour the Amazon ad to see what was in the package and came away unsure. The photo shows both the stove and the canister so I took a gamble. Now I have to hunt around for a fuel source.

5very compact!  Apr 22, 2010
I have not had a chance to try this yet, but my husband purchased it since it was very small and compact. He is about to take a motorcycle trip, and wanted something that he can pack, without using much space. This little stove is great for that!

Nice quality. Lights easily, stays lit even in the wind, boils water quickly. Couldn't ask for more.

2compactness and light weight comes at a cost- tipsy  Apr 13, 2010
I've had this burner for 4 years, and I've come to the conclusion that the few ounces you save in weight with this stove aren't worth the hassle. Frankly, it is tipsy. You see how in the picture each leg has a flat spot for the pot to rest on? Well in reality the legs do not open all the way, and the pot ends up resting on three points, the "elbows" of the three arms. This is precarious and if your pots have anti-stick coating on the outside, forget about it. When water starts to boil the bubbling action is enough to threaten to topple everything over. I have spilled boiling water on my hand because of this.

Overall this product should only be considered by those who place a very high premium on minimizing their pack weight. For all others it's worth getting a slightly heavier, but more stable model.
