4Great starter kit and not expensive too.  Nov 13, 2006
By rmay
Part of my parameters when evaluating backpacking gear is light weight, space savings, functionality and cost. I love this pot set. The 2 pots with lids come with the grabber at just a little more than the 2qt pot and lid alone. They are non stick and very light weight. I generally use just the larger pot and grabber only but got the kit as it was less expensive than buying the larger pot/lid combo and grabber separately. My son is a Boy Scout and many kids start Scouts but have an issue with backpacking as they are usually about 12 years old and their parents, who may know nothing of backpacking control the purse strings. I like them, was cautious as I did not know how long my son would continue and use the gear I was buying. So, along with my functionality requirement is a cost requirement. This pot set hits on all cylinders. It is aluminum and therefore light weight. It is non-stick and easy to clean. It uses a pot grabber which I prefer to swinging handles or fixed handles. At almost 2 qt, it is big enough for most meals and large enough to be able to store shortened utensils, backpack stove, the grabber, and other gear inside to save space in his backpack. Now, the reasons it is not rated 5 stars... Part of the way they got the light weight is thinner aluminum than the high end anodized and hardened pots. It will dent or bend if crushed or hammered on. We have used it for a year without damaging it but I can feel it and know it is possible. Cost is kept down with the thinner material also and the more basic design. It does not have grooves in the bottom. It is just a smooth sided pot on all sides including the bottom. If you are using the very small backpack canister stoves, which already topple easily, the slick bottomed pot will slide and topple even easier. With medium sized or larger stoves this seems to be no issue. When cooking make sure you have a stable and well centered situation with any stove and pot, with this one, more so. All in all, it has been the right decision for us. If he continues to backpack and enjoy it, might he receive a better pot for a special occasion or great report card? You bet! There is still a little sister to go. For now, this one is perfect.

3Good Value but a little too slick  Aug 29, 2008
By W. Richardson
Great price and a good lightweight set with plenty of volume to cook for 2-4. Includes lids and pot holder. The small pot worked well right out of the box but the large pot easily slid off my stove. Unless the stove was perfectly level and the pot placed exactly center (both unachievable in the woods) the pot will slide off the stove a minute after you begin cooking. Having done a little metal work in my life I was able to modify the pot by hammering a ridge in the bottom of it to give it some traction on the stove. Now it works great! Ok, so that is a bit of a pain but for 15 bucks I have great lightweight cook set.

4Very good for backpack camping.  Apr 15, 2009
By E. Tucker
I purchased this cooking set for a primitive camping trip to False Cape State Park in Virginia. I knew I was going to need something lightweight but large enough for cooking meals for two and this set fit the bill perfectly. The pans are a nice size and if packed properly don't take up too much space (store small items like condiments, spices, sweeteners, small cooking oil bottle, and powder drink mixes inside the smaller pot to save space). They are very lightweight. The only reason why I gave this a 4 star was because it is coated in teflon all over the pan which makes it VERY slippery on your stove. I've got a Bruton Talon stove which is very small itself and while it has some grip it just couldn't hold onto the bottom very well. Luckily we had a nice flat surface to cook on but I recommend using the pan holder (included) to hold it while you stir/etc. As a modification I drilled some holes in the pot holder to reduce its weight even more. Every gram counts when you carry all your gear on your back or bike. I highly recommend this product.

5Simple and Lightweight!  Jun 10, 2008
By Martin A Hogan "Marty From SF"

This is simply two non-stick kettles (interior and exterior) with lids and compact aluminum clamps. The non-stick coating also makes for faster heat transfer for more even cooking. For serious backpacking, two containers to cook with is all you need. These pans are guaranteed dent-resistant and with the non-stick, cleanup is thankfully easy. With 1.9 liter capacity (that's one-half gallon), you can cook enough for four people. The best part about this five-piece set of pans is they only weigh 11 ounces!

3Slippery!!  Mar 01, 2011
By bk26
Bought this for use with my MSR pocket Rocket. Nice little set but it is very slippery. If the stove is not exactly level, the pot wants to slip off. You need to be careful stiring also. Ended up buying a pot with ridges on the bottom. The Pocket rocket can grab it better.
