Great hiking companion! May 10, 2010 Simply put, these are some of the best backpacking bottles I've ever had. They're lightweight and when empty compact down so you don't have to sacrifice precious space in your pack if you want to use them more as a base-camp water supply. I use mine to carry extra water on the trail, though, not as my primary water source as you have to use two hands to drink from it and that can be a bit cumbersome on the move...but that doesn't bother me since I purchased it to serve as refill storage.
They're incredibly sturdy -- I've dropped mine a few times without any problems. These bottles are also a lot easier to refill than standard bottles, especially considering how awkward it is trying to fill a rigid bottle in a limited amount of space. Another feature I really like is that these bottles don't slosh around since you can squeeze the air out and cap it, even if it only has a little liquid remaining.
I've also found that my dog seems to have an easier time maneuvering with these in his pack instead of rigid bottles (he carries one litter in each side).
Lastly, the bottles are BPA free (no plastic taste!) and easy to clean, just leave the cap off until it dries completely.
extended stay water bladder May 01, 2010 Will work well for extended stays while hiking or camping in area where water is questionable and with use combined with Frontier Pro Water Filter.

awesome Jun 01, 2009 I am totally loving my platypus bottle.
The water has no smell or taste.
Its super easy to carry and drink out of.
I take it to work in my purse everyday and to volleyball practice and games.
All my team mates loved it and want to get their own.
I am thinking of getting the 2L.

very bad ad. May 29, 2009 This is one of the Biggest Con Jobs I have ever experienced on Amazon.com. The company is Mountaingear and they show, in their ad, a canteen and holder for $7.95. Then they charge $8.90 for shipping and don't send the holder. The ad shows the holster and bladder, but they only send the bladder, which weighs about 1 oz. In the fine print, it says, bladder only,
but that is hidden in another location. The picture shows the Holster and bladder, in two colors. I will never, ever, ever do any busines with Mountain Gear again. They should be made to wear masks and hold a gun on you.

Very convenient. Jul 03, 2008 I carry water everywhere and this is this easiest most spill proof system I have used in 10 years. I have several of them that I keep in the refrigerator and rotate them through. So glad to get out of the plastic water bottles habit!
