temperature rating overrated - 40-45F MAX rating May 31, 2008
By A. Patel I've given this bag the benefit of the doubt several times when I've gone camping. Afterall, I figured it was a name brand with some very neat features -
1. Construction seems solid
2. The compression sack and compressed size is great for backpacking.
3. The weight is pretty good for a 20F bag.
4. The head cinches tight to reduce the surface area of skin exposed to the cold air.
I assumed either it was the clothes that I was wearing or the lack of sleeping pad (on my first outings) that was keeping me cold at night, but I was wrong.
On my last outing to Yosemite, I went all out trying to prove to myself that this bag would keep me warm in cool temperatures. The overnight low forecast was 41F. I came prepared with long underwear head to toe, a beanie, my therma-rest trail regular sleeping pad, a closed 3-person tent (with 2 people in it), and this sleeping bag. There were many cold spots on the side of the bag exposed to the cool air in the tent. I had to curl up in order to keep my feet warm. Overall it was a miserable experience.
I wouldn't recommend this bag at all considering the temperature rating is totally wrong and limits the usability of this bag tremendously. I believe it is only good in temperatures above 45F.

A great sleeping bag, and snuggly warm... Jan 09, 2007
By P. Wilcox Although I'd disagree that it provides comfort down to 20 degrees (sleeping bags are rarely good to their rating (I have 6 different bags!), this one packs down nice and small, has a great Merino wool (soft and warm!) liner built in, and is yet another great product from Slumberjack. I also own an Odyssey (10 degree), that is wonderful, and actually does get close to the rating with regard to warmth.
This one will be a great bag for my Scouting adventures in the spring and fall...
