Doesn't maintain temp, handle falls off Sep 27, 2006
By Andrew Ford
"From B-town"
I own two, and have had problems with both. Even when pre-heated, coffee/ tea is luke warm 3 hours later. Sturdy product--should be for it is pretty heavy
5/4/07 update-- I think it is important to mention that shortly after the original review was posted, Stanley contacted me to offer a replacement. I thought this was pretty cool. I would add another star if Amazon would let me

Works like it should Jan 30, 2009
By CtrlAltDlt This product is exactly what I needed, and works exactly like I expected. As a former lab-tech at an electronics review facility, my standards for quality are pretty high, especially when it comes to everyday items.
This bottle I preheated as normal, and with fully boiling water within, was cool to the touch. Stanley claims the jar will keep the contents hot for 14 hours. For the first 3 tests I quickly emptied and refilled the bottle with boiling water, sealed it, and let it sit in various environments (fridge at 30, outdoors at around 40-50, room at 65 (F)) for the full length of time. As this is a food jar, I dont anticipate opening it on a regular day until I need to eat, at which point all of the contents will likely be consumed.
At 14 hours, all the trials yielded warm to fairly hot water, with 2 likely still being hot enough for me to enjoy a soup. I re-tested, this time taking temp at 5 hours, typical lunch break, and the water was very hot in 2 trials. i didnt have my therm on me but it was hot enough for tea and definitely soup.
I was pleasantly surprised by my findings. I also find the size of this container to be ideal for food, as most food jars these days are just too small for a real meal (10oz-16oz varieties abound). The lid represents exactly half of the contents of the jar, so you can split a decent amount of soup between friends or just enjoy half your soup and still have a good amount for later snacking.
This Stanley does have one weakness: the handle. The bottle itself is very rugged, but the handle seems to be spot-welded on, and no doubt a few good drops and it would break off, especially if it is filled. I'd probably be able to solder it back, but I'll be keeping it in my bag for transport.
Overall 4/5, would recommend for commuters and hikers alike.
I previously reviewed the Stanley 1.1qt vacuum bottle, which I am now positive was defective. My experience with the food jar is likely more representative of the quality stanley is known for.

The New one keep things hotter Oct 11, 2010
By Earthly Traveler
"Traveler"
I have in front of me both a new model (made in China), and and older model, (made in USA)
Both are Brand New out of the box.
I had bought a new one at Meijer for $22, but after reading all the disparaging comments on here regarding the lower quality, Chinese made new ones, I got on EBAY and bid on a brand new/old one for $15.
So here they are.
The old one is 3-part: Neck, Body, Base.
The new one is 2 part: Neck/Body, and base.
Both old and new handle attachment points are spot-welded.
Old one is smooth and unnoticeable.
New one has 3 distinct burn points.
Either way, a good spot weld is nothing to fear. They hold your car together just fine.
Older body metal seems to be a gauge or 2 thicker. This is not readily verifiable.
Older One definitely has a rougher/more grip-able texture, and thicker, more durable, powder coating.
Older stopper cap is not as thick as newer one...by about 3/8"
Older stopper cap has beefier rubber gasket as opposed to the new ones downsized, plastic gasket.
old/new stopper caps ARE NOT interchangeable.
old/new cup/mug caps are not interchangeable.
Old cup/mugs are all plastic, with the outer bit made to looke like stainless or chrome.
New cup/mug is plastic with a polished tin outer shell.
The MOST IMPORTANT factor?
The NEW ONE kept water noticeably HOTTER after night in the freezer!
Will attempt to re-measure using thermometer, but the diff was quite noticeable.

Stanley 24 oz. Classic Vacum Food Bottle Nov 22, 2008
By James R. Lima I have 2 other Stanley Vacuum bottles , but they are for liq., and have never failed to keep contents hot or cold. they are the very best. The Stanley 24 oz.Classic Vacuum Food Bottle that I purchased from your company I used on a hunting trip to Saskatchewan Canada, for Stew, Chile, and soup, the weather at the time was very cold and the Stanley 24 oz. bottle kept my contents hot all day and night. I would recommend this product to every one on there deer stand , or were ever they are and demand hot food . Great job Stanley, Keep up with your great products. Thank you. Jim Lima

Great product Feb 15, 2011
By maddie 07 I have had this thermos for about 3 years and it still keeps the contents warm. The piece that is spot welded to the bottle that the handle goes on fell off the bottle .I called stanley no questions asked they sent me a new thermos.I put soup in this bottle at 4:30 in the morning and I take a lunch break at 1:30 and the contents are still warm. Great product.
