Better than Expected Apr 02, 2007
By Matachen
"Space Tragic"
This compass is better than I expected. It is tiny but accurate, clips firmly onto my watch band (and comes with a band of its own), and has a smooth, fluid motion. The latch is a bit flimsy, and can't close completely on the band of my Timex Men's Ironman Triathlon 100-Lap FLIX System Watch #T5E231 but it grips well enough -- even for off road running -- that the latch really isn't needed (and the rest of the compass is not flimsy at all.) The north indicator and rotating bezel are luminous enough to see easily at night, and the bezel stays firmly in the position you set it in. Worth the price.

Good for the price, can be uncomfortable to wear Aug 23, 2007
By L. McFadden I bought this in hopes of wearing it on my watchband, but some of the edge poke can be felt after wearing it for a while. However, I wear my watch tight, and by band is wide and thick plastic. The compass itself is great, much better than the cheap compasses like those on match containers and the like. I have mine on a lanyard attached to a Sog Revolver. The luminous bezel is great too. It makes a great backup compass.

Exceptional in its field Jan 20, 2008

The Suunto Clipper with luminous bezel is exceptional for what it is.
It is not intended as a primary navigational tool, but a backup and a way to check other tools. It is small enough to go mostly unnoticed on a watchstrap in the woods, but has luminous bezel and markings, and a rotating bezel. It is marked every 10 degrees and has clicks on the bezel every 7 1/2 degrees. With most of the features of a full sized compass and accuracy comparable or better than many larger compasses, this is an outstanding watchstrap compass. It is durable, still performing well after riding in a pocket full of keys and change and being beaten about on ones wrist.
Overall: the best of its type! If you want a better compass, you'll have to get a bigger compass.

None better in this class Feb 02, 2009

Owned or used virtually all of these type compasses and this is the only one that really holds up true - Yes I know it won't click onto a really thick watch band or a metal one - But in the long run that's not that important - It is ACCURATE - Yes this compass really does point north - Even after chasing ferrral hogs under high tension power lines - I even used it on an orienteering event as my sole compass after I lent out my regular Siva and dam sure I came out right on point - Don't get fooled by the other compass clip on's - After a few months or working around electrical fields they won't even point north anymore - These Suunto's really hold up - I have had a few over 8 or 9 months of field use and never had a chance to wear one out before I lost my watch - That's because I am way to tough on my equipment - That's why I don't take anything out in the field I can't afford to loose or destroy - This little compass has a very strong magnet that is well dampened to allow use during movement - The increments are marked off in just small enough increments to allow fair use with good judgment - I wear mine 24/7 no matter what I am doing - I am sure if they made this compass any better it would cost three times as much... Get one... Go Outside... Have Fun...

Awesome little compass. Jul 17, 2009
By John Braun Some responses:
I see some people complaining about the fit on a watchband - the opening is 22mm x 4mm, and it WILL NOT FIT if your watch falls outside these bounds. So no more complaining!
What do you mean "only works if you hold it flat" - IT'S A COMPASS, SILLY! THEY ALL WORK THAT WAY!
Works fine for me mountain biking, running, hiking, and traveling.
My only complaint is that there's no convenient way to attach to a keychain, so I drilled a hole through the plastic clip part next to the directional arrow and it works great.
