 Durable, Light, and Defenitely Comfortable Jan 16, 2010
My whole family and I have been using thermarest sleeping pads for years now and they couldn't be any better. it was finally time for me to move out to college, the university of Montana, and my parents got me this for the many hiking trips i would do. It is safe to this pad gets some great use, weather it is used for sleeping on the floor in some-one's basement, or 50 miles from the nearest road in the back country, this pad it amazingly light and comfortable. it can be compressed to a tiny size perfect for back country hiking, and the pad does not give up any comfort with the new, lighter and thinner size. I am 6'4" and this pad fits me perfectly. There has never been a night of sleep on this thing where I have been kept up due to comfort. And a helpful hint to those who will be using this for car camping, buy two per person, if you double up mattresses, you will think your sleeping on your home bed. I have always preferred sleeping on two pads rather than any hotel bed. The pads also add a great deal of warmth to your sleep. Although they are pricey compared to foam pads, the comfort gained is incomparable. Never camp without one of these again!

I've been usuing closed-cell foam pads for 25+ years.Never again will use them unless camping with Bear Grylls. Best price and the comfort level worth it.Also packs about half the size of most foam pads.A must have if you don't mind a few extra grams.

Thermarest mattresses are somewhat comfortable but extremely overpriced. The fact that the stuff bag for the mattress must be purchased seprately leads me to the opinion that Thermarest is a rip off.

I am shocked by how comfortable this mattress. It almost seems to me that it shouldn't be physically possible to create a mattress that is so small and so thin and yet so comfortable. I am actually convinced that this little mattress is more comfortable than some beds.
I have even put this mattress straight on concrete floors (with a thin liner underneath), slept on my side, and not been able to tell at all that I'm actually about an inch or so from the concrete. It's seriously ridiculous.
Last night a friend of mine had to stay over and I offered him the futon or the Thermarest joking that the Thermarest was probably more comfortable. After briefly lying on the futon and then the Thermarest, he was surprised that he actually felt better on the Thermarest. He woke up this morning well rested joking that he would get one of these for his apartment to save space and replace his bed.
Seriously, I don't know how the Thermarest engineers managed to create such a design, but it is thoroughly exceptional. I had an old Thermarest from years back that was alright, but this mattress is in a class of its own and has made me question the common-sense belief that the quality of a bed depends on its thickness - it just isn't true. Anyway, kudos to the engineering team at Thermarest because they've really got some skills...

Honestly the Best Sleeping Surface I Have Ever Encountered Feb 08, 2009
Not one to over-hype something, but in this case every review you will read about this product is 100% accurate.
I purchased the Prolight 4 because I will e deploying next year and I want to have something comfortable and light to take with me. I got the large size because you can always use more sleeping room than less. I saw the portion of the description about this pad providing heat back to the sleeper. I figured this was a gimmick and didn't pay any attention to it.
Let me tell you, this mat warms you up the moment your body touches it. It is literally amazing. I tested it out the first day I got it, laid it out and got on top. The first thing I noticed was the warming sensation as my body heat was reflected back at me. The next thing I noticed was that the floor could not be felt through the pad. I turned on my side, on my stomach, every which way and I COULD NOT force myself to find the hard surface of the floor beneath the pad. This thing is less than an inch thick, so the level of comfort it provides is truly astounding.
What really got me though was that my test was only supposed to be cursory, yet I was so comfortable that I actually fell asleep after five minutes. I woke up the next morning and realized I had slept through the night on this pad, tossing and turning, and not once did I realize I wasn't on my bed. I have NEVER had that happen with a sleeping mat.
I wish Amazon had a hiher rating than 5 stars. I am going to buy another one of these just in case, but based on the level of craftsmanship I know this one is going to last me decades.
I am hooked. Thermarest now has at least one more die hard fan. I am so glad to find there are companies still out there who put the effort into making a product exceed the expectations of the consumers. This was one hell of great buy!
