1L.L. Bean, here I come!!  Aug 19, 2007
By Mary Hoffmann
Well, you get what you pay for. And this tent was cheap. As we (not inexperienced tent campers) were pitching this tent, a seam ripped. We had to find a scrap of sail cloth and sewing utentils to mend it to keep it from ripping further. A stake loop just popped out as we were staking the tent, again ripping the material. Had to jury-rig that, too, to be able to use the tent. Finally, in a modest wind, one side collapsed, leaving the net roof exposed to the rain, resulting in a small pool in our tent. We got home last night, and I already have this ready to go to the Post Office for a refund.

2Disappointed  Feb 24, 2008
By Jon Perkins
I have been using Wenzel tents for my business for last 2 years. Previously I was using the Castle Rock. It was great! Last year they discontinued the Castle Rock and replaced it with the Meramac. It looked very similar in the pictures and I needed more tents so I ordered 20.
I can confirm what the other negative posts say. This tent has very little structural integrity. It may seem sturdy at first but after the seams stretch our or if there is some wind, they can get wobbly. When following the instructions properly (there is a tricky part.) It's easy to tear it when setting it up because it relies on a lot of tension to hold it's shape, but they did not reinforce any of the important seems. There are only 2 places to tie down the rain fly and they are not reinforced. They tear easy when the wind gets going. It's a huge headache for me because I have 20. Luckily the weather is mostly mild where I am using them.
It will keep the bugs and snakes out, but after 2 or 3 rain showers it loses it's water resistance and you better hope you have a big tarp to throw over it. (this is probably normal for big, low cost tents)
If you sure you won't encounter any bad weather this tent is very spacious and feels like a small bedroom.

2Don't buy this tent.  Aug 23, 2007

This tent is cheap and the frame is weak. Ours only lasted one night and collapsed with TWO shattered poles in a mild thunderstorm. It can't even hold itself up! Waste of money, and customer service was rude and Wenzel's warranty is useless, you will not get your money back. Don't buy this tent.

I bought this tent thinking I could trust the Wenzel name for quality. On the second campout, some of the poles split. I used duct tape to reinforce them, even the ones that didn't split, and got 2 more campouts out of it. On the 4th and last campout, one of the poles snapped (moderate to gusty wind, not one of the split poles). When it snapped, it caused the pole holding the fly on the side to let loose, which then ripped the fly.
It is easy to set up, even for one person. And, it has plenty of room to stand up in. But I've gotten better (more) use out of cheaper tents.
